Comme des Garçons SS27 returns to the costume of power

Comme des Garçons showed its spring 2027 collection in Paris on October 3. In WWD's account of the show, Rei Kawakubo set references to monarchy against the clothes people wear every day. The show title, "We'll Never Be Royals," made the target plain. The Paris Fashion Week calendar lists the house among this season's shows.

The interesting part is the collision, rather than any promise that one runway look will become a new uniform. Kawakubo has spent decades making ordinary garments look unfamiliar. A jacket can carry the shape of a costume; a simple layer can turn elaborate when the proportion changes. This collection takes that habit to court dress. It asks what happens when clothes built to mark rank meet pieces intended for daily use.

It is too early to call anything a resale grail. The collection has only just appeared, and runway coverage does not tell us which pieces will reach stores. If the show sends you back through the label, search Comme des Garçons on Elusive to see what is available now. Look at the cut before the label.
